Kenny Chesney stands up for “the original hillbilly rock star”: “It’s time we hear David Lee Murphy again”

Reviver Kenny Chesney‘s on the verge of having a top ten hit with his pal, “Dust on the Bottle” hitmaker David Lee Murphy.

Long before they recorded “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright,” their current single together, Kenny and David Lee struck up a friendship during the recording of Kenny’s 2007 album, Just Who I Am: Poets & Pirates.

“I believe the first song I recorded of David Lee Murphy’s was ‘Just Not Today,’” Kenny recalls. “But the first song that was a single for me was ‘Living In Fast Forward.'”

“And there’s a line in that song that says ‘Living in fast forward, a hillbilly rock star out of control,’” the eight-time Entertainer of the Year continues. “And in my opinion, that’s David Lee Murphy to a T. I mean, I think he’s the original hillbilly rock star.”

Kenny not only sings on David Lee’s new album, No Zip Code, he also co-produced it and was a driving force in getting it made.

“David Lee kept sending me songs that I recorded, some songs I passed on, some songs that were big records for me,” Kenny explains. “But he had this voice that kept getting better and better and better, and one day I decided, ‘Why doesn’t David Lee Murphy make a record?'”

“It’s time we hear David Lee Murphy again, because his voice is timeless. His songs are timeless,” Kenny says passionately. “And man, I’m really glad we got in there and made this album together, and I’m really proud of him.”

No Zip Code will be available in stores and online on Friday.
