UMGThe only pretty tears you’ll get from Carrie Underwood are the glittery ones falling from her eyes on the cover of her new single, “Cry Pretty.”
“You can pretty lie, and say it’s ok/You can pretty smile, and just walk away/Pretty much fake your way through anything,” Carrie sings on her first single for Universal Nashville. “But you can’t cry pretty,” the chorus finishes.
The American Idol winner released the power ballad Wednesday morning, ahead of the tune’s performance debut on the Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday.
In many ways, the appearance also will be Carrie’s public re-introduction. It’ll be her first major, live TV appearance since last November’s CMA Awards. Shortly afterward, she suffered a serious fall at her Nashville-area home, breaking her wrist and requiring dozens of stitches for an unspecified injury to her face. The Oklahoma native has stayed out of the public eye as she recuperated.
