ABC/Image Group LALady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott says her 10-week-old identical twin girls are simply “a double blessing from the Lord.”
That’s especially true, since Betsy Mack and Emory JoAnn joined Hillary, husband Chris Tyrell, and four-and-a-half year-old Eisele [EYES-lee], after Hillary went through a painful miscarriage. She chronicled her struggle in her Grammy-winning Christian hit, “Thy Will.”
“It was emotional,” Hillary tells People, “because I’m like, ‘Oh, we’re going to have as many babies in our house as I hoped we would have. It just isn’t in the same timing that I thought it was going to be, but we are going to have our three.”
It’s even more remarkable because neither Hillary nor husband Chris have a family history of twins.
“I remember Charles [Kelley] asked, ‘So did y’all have to do fertility [treatments]?’ I said, ‘No.’ Thankfully, we thought we would but we did not,” Hillary says, going on to crack a joke. “I said, ‘And no we did not Google how to have twins. It just happened.”
Even so, Hillary’s pregnancy was not without its struggles.
“You [definitely have] double the fatigue,” she explains. “I was sick in the beginning and it was always right around showtime so I had to take anti-nausea medicine that my doctor prescribed me, which thank the Lord for that stuff.”
At the time, Hillary was in the middle of Lady A’s You Look Good World Tour.
“I didn’t know if I would’ve been able to make a handful of shows because there just were some close calls.”
This weekend, Hillary, Charles, and Dave Kelley reunite for their first major appearance post-pregnancy, as they perform on Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards on CBS.
