Nick Walker“The Middle,” Maren Morris’ pop hit with DJ/producer Zedd, sounds like a typical upbeat dance song about love, but Maren feels that it’s also a reflection of what our society needs at this moment in time.
“I related to it so much, not so much like the vocal, but the meaning behind the song and especially at such a crazy time right now,” she tells ABC Radio. “Just politically, the world is just, it feels very divisive.”
“I feel like the song ‘The Middle,’ like, ‘Why don’t you just meet me in the middle?’ is such a great message for right now and I think that’s what people want so desperately,” she adds.
Maren’s also happy that “The Middle” can be enjoyed on more than one level.
She explains, “I loved that the song could pertain to a relationship and also, like, how we feel, just as people, right now in America.”
“The Middle” is currently #6 on the pop chart, while Maren’s new single, “Rich,” just broke into country’s top 40.
Maren can also be heard on Restoration, one of two recently released albums of Elton John cover songs, performing his classic tune “Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters.” On June 1, she’ll kick off four months of dates as a special guest on One Direction member Niall Horan‘s solo tour.
