ABC RadioAs Dierks Bentley‘s ninth studio album, The Mountain, was released at midnight Friday, he simultaneously performed the record live at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium.
His tour mates Brothers Osborne were unable to join him for the opening track, “Burning Man,” because they were busy across town playing CMA Fest’s main stage at Nashville’s Nissan Stadium. His other openers, LANCO, started the show and then wandered out into the audience to watch Dierks play.
The crowd immediately came to its feet as the Arizona native kicked off his #2 hit, “Woman, Amen.” Frequent CMA Musician of the Year nominee Sam Bush joined Dierks to play the track “You Can’t Bring Me Down.”
A packed audience crowded the former home of the Grand Ole Opry, with fans standing both in front of the stage and at the back of the balcony, as Dierks admitted this was the first time in his career he’d ever played one of his albums in its entirety.
He closed the late-night show with a surprise appearance by his nineties cover band, Hot Country Knights. The Mountain is new in stores and online today.
