Dan + Shay strip it down to “The Vocals” for new versions of “Tequila” and “Speechless”

ABC/Randy HolmesWhen Dan + Shay first launched “Tequila” earlier this year, they shared vocal-only snippets of the song, which went on to be a multi-week #1. Now, thanks to fan response, they’re releasing the full stripped-down versions of both “Tequila” and their new single, “Speechless.”

Dan Smyers, who co-produced the duo’s third album, says the stacked vocals he and Shay Mooney recorded were influenced by the legendary Beach Boys.

“While we were making the self-titled record, I stumbled upon the 30th Anniversary Collection of one of my favorite records of all time, Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys,” Dan explains on social media.

“Disc 3 is all soloed vocal tracks. I spent months listening to and studying the BRILLIANT harmony structure and finding inspiration that I applied to our vocal production.”

The Vocals versions of “Tequila” and “Speechless” are available to stream or download now, and you can also check them out on YouTube.
