ABC/Mark LevineOld Dominion recently spent some time at Sound Stage Studios Nashville recording a new version of their current hit, “Hotel Key,” for Spotify.
The ACM Vocal Group of the Year wanted to capture a take of the song that was closer to what they do in concert. At the same time, they decided to cover Halsey’s pop hit, “Bad at Love.”
“The thing about a great song is it’s great in any style that you perform it,” lead singer Matthew Ramsey says in a behind-the-scenes video the band shared on Twitter. “It can hold its own in any form. And ‘Bad at Love’ is such a great song. We all loved it.”
He continues: “We didn’t really know what we were gonna do with it until we got in the studio and really dug in and came up with parts to serve that song in a completely different way than the original. And we think it came out pretty cool.”
You can hear a bit of OD’s Halsey cover in the video, but you’ll have to go to Spotify for the full version.
