Warner Music NashvilleAs Aussie Morgan Evans celebrates his first #1 in the U.S. this week with “Kiss Somebody,” he admits he’s having the time of his life.
“I feel like I’m flying, dude! It’s crazy,” he revealed on the red carpet earlier this week at the 2018 ACM Honors in Nashville. “It didn’t really sink in straightaway. But when I saw that printed chart on Monday, I was just like, ‘Wow, there it is.'”
“It’s just like this overwhelming feeling of pride and all that kind of thing,” Morgan explains. “But more like acceptance, acceptance into this country and the country music community.”
“And just this year, having been on the road every weekend,” he continues, “what that number one really means is, every weekend people have been singing this song louder and louder and louder, and that’s really been the great part of the experience.”
As you might expect, for Morgan, this week’s been quite a party.
“I think I’m still hungover from a couple days ago!” he laughs. “But we had a good celebration on Saturday night. We both got back from the road, [my wife] Kelsea [Ballerini] and I, on Monday afternoon. And we decided to go and have a margarita to celebrate and invited a couple of our friends, who invited a couple of their friends. And it ended up kinda being this impromptu rager.”
“Best Monday, worst Tuesday is how I’d like to describe it,” he smiles.
For now, you’ll find “Kiss Somebody” on Morgan’s self-titled debut EP, before it finds its home on his first album, which should arrive later this year.
