Capitol NashvilleEarlier this month, Carrie Underwood revealed she’ll hit the road on the Cry Pretty Tour 360 next year, and she’s also expecting her second child.
Since the American Idol superstar wore pink in the announcement video, fans have speculated that’s a message that she’s having a girl. But Carrie says that’s not necessarily the case.
“I’m not sending out any signals,” she clarifies. “As of this moment, I don’t even know what it is, you know. It’s a baby…” she laughs. “But if I’d worn blue, it would’ve been the other way. That’s just what fit me that day was pink.”
The Oklahoma native admits she’d been trying to keep the news under wraps as long as possible.
“Obviously, you kinda want to reach a point in your pregnancy where you’re kinda sure that everything is going well, before you let other people in on it,” Carrie explains. “So I feel like that was important. You don’t want to jump the gun and then have to take it back…”
“It was just trying to keep it until I couldn’t keep it no more. And then one day I woke up looking like this,” she says, gesturing toward her stomach.
“And I was like, ‘I guess today’s the day. I can’t hide this no more!’ Like, going to the grocery store and like, you know it’s ninety-something degrees outside, and I’m in, like, giant hoodies,” she laughs.
This week, Carrie’s hit “Cry Pretty” is spending its eighth week in country’s top ten. It’s the lead single and title track of her new album, which arrives September 14.
