ABC RadioThere was no shortage of special guests and big moments Friday night as Keith Urban played for a hometown crowd at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
Early in the show, the Aussie superstar brought a couple fans onstage, who happened to be holding a sign that referenced his wife, actress Nicole Kidman. Keith wasted no time inviting the Oscar winner herself front and center to meet the ladies.
“Do you like Big Little Lies?” he asked, before bringing Nic’s co-star from the hit HBO series, Reese Witherspoon, onstage. While the Walk the Line Academy Award winner declined Keith’s offer to sing — as she did in the film — the fivesome posed for a selfie before the concert continued. You could still spot Nicole dancing sidestage during most of the show.
Keith’s opener Kelsea Ballerini returned to sing Miranda Lambert’s part on “We Were Us,” setting the stage for another CMA Female Vocalist of the Year. Though she typically does her part of “The Fighter” via video, a visibly pregnant Carrie Underwood appeared for a live version of the #1 hit.
The Tennessee State University marching band stormed the arena for an unforgettable take on “Wasted Time,” before Keith pointed out he was playing Waylon Jennings’ guitar on “Making Memories of Us.”
The euphoric singer/guitar slinger closed by doing his first #1, “But for the Grace of God,” behind one of the iconic Grand Ole Opry mic stands. Keith was invited to join the country music institution during one of his All for the Hall shows at the Bridgestone.
Only one U.S. weekend remains on the Graffiti U World Tour, before Keith travels to Canada, with Lindsay Ell opening the show.
