ABC/Lou RoccoThe Recording Academy — the organization behind the Grammys — will honor Dolly Parton next February as the 2019 MusiCares Person of the Year.
The annual L.A.-based gala is a fundraiser for MusiCares, the charitable arm of the Academy, which helps members of the music industry in times of financial, medical and personal need.
Dolly’s being honored for both her creative accomplishments, as well as her philanthropic work through her Dollywood Foundation and the Imagination Library, which sends free books to kids all over the world.
“I am so excited and humbled to be honored as MusiCares Person of the Year,” the Country Music Hall of Famer remarks. “It’s even more special knowing the gala benefits music people in need. I can’t wait to hear all of the great artists singing my music.”
The 29th annual benefit gala will take place Friday, February 8 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, just two nights before the 61st Annual Grammys.
This is the first time in the event’s nearly-three-decade history that it’s honored a country artist. Expect a stellar line-up to be announced in the coming months to honor Dolly.
