Getty ImagesDarius Rucker led An Opry Salute to Ray Charles Monday night in Nashville from the stage of the legendary, long-running radio show.
“As a Grand Ole Opry member I am moved to see the Opry recognize Ray and the magnitude of his contribution to country music,” Darius told the audience. “Both the Grand Ole Opry and Ray shared the same vision — to bridge musical genres.”
Chris Young teamed up with Boyz II Men on “Your Love So Doggone Good” to do just that. Chris also delivered his version of Ray Charles’ classic take on “I Can’t Stop Loving You,” while Boyz did “Georgia on My Mind” as well. In addition to his hosting duties, Darius also performed “Don’t Change on Me.”
Brett Eldredge, Cam, Travis Tritt, Ronnie Milsap, LeAnn Rimes and more were all part of the stellar show that ended with an all-star rendition of “America the Beautiful.”
Trisha Yearwood also recorded a special version of the standard “You Don’t Know Me” for the event, which is set to air on public television in February of next year.
