Atlantic/Warner Music NashvilleWhen it came to creating the new tracks for the Deluxe edition of his 2016 Christmas disc Glow, Brett Eldredge says he approached the project the same way he did the original album.
“I went back in New York, lived in the city,” he explains. “Just dove in deep and got in that Christmas spirit in the middle of May again. It was an amazing experience, and I think it took it to a whole ‘nother level.”
Brett admits it does seem to require a certain amount of liquid courage to front a big band in the tradition of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin.
“When we were recording the first original batch of songs for Glow, I brought in some whiskey and I wore a tux. Or I wore like a suit, I think,” he recalls. “I wanted to get in that crooner, kind of classic, warm vibe.”
But Brett says he’s such a kid at heart that it’s not a problem for him to get into the Christmas spirit practically anytime.
“It’s not really hard,” he reflects. “I think if you always remember the kid that is in you…remembering that feeling you had when you were waking up at 6 a.m. to wake your parents up…to open presents.”
“If you can remember that part of you,” he adds, “and how that makes you feel and the music, I think you can always get into that place… I think the music always takes me back to that warm, fuzzy feeling.”
The new version of Glow has different cover art and adds five new songs: “Do You Hear What I Hear?,” “Silver Bells,” “Sleigh Ride,” “A Holly Jolly Christmas,” and “Christmas Time Is Here.” It arrives in stores and online today.
