ABC RadioPistol Annies delivered all the sass, spunk and songs fans have come to expect at their first full show together in seven years Thursday night at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.
Miranda Lambert offered up sly references to her ex-husband Blake Shelton, Angaleena Presley proved she can still clog and play guitar even though she’s expecting a baby, and Ashley Monroe remained the musical glue that often holds the whole thing together. The sold-out crowd was so lively that at one point, Miranda even had to have one rowdy fan escorted out.
“We have to tell y’all about some stats,” the reigning CMA Female Vocalist of the Year said from the stage. “Since we’ve been a band — 2010 we started — we have two husbands, two ex-husbands, two babies, one on the way, and 25 animals!’”
In addition to tunes fans expected — like “Lemon Drop,” “Taking Pills,” and “Hell on Heels” — Pistol Annies also offered up plenty of material from their new album, Interstate Gospel, which comes out next Friday. In addition to the title track, “Sugar Daddy,” and “Best Years of My Life,” the trio also introduced the new tunes “Cheyenne” and “Milkman.”
Things got particularly spicy as the threesome prepared to sing their new divorce-themed single, “Got My Name Changed Back.”
“This song is not about anyone in this band,” Angaleena assured the crowd.
“She’s full of s***!” Miranda countered.
The Annies’ next show takes place at New York City’s The Town Hall next Friday, the same day their album comes out. They’re also set to play The Novo in Los Angeles on November 7.
