ABC/Image Group LA The days when Taylor Swift was a fixture on the country chart may be past, but the two-time CMA Entertainer of the Year is still managing to juggle her first love with her international pop superstardom.
Right now, she has a top fifteen hit with Sugarland on “Babe,” the song she co-wrote with Train‘s Pat Monahan.
The track is also up for Music Video of the Year at next week’s CMA Awards, and both Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush give Taylor most of the credit for the dramatic, cinematic clip set in the Mad Men era.
“Videos are their own… art form… ” Jennifer points out.
“They are meant to support the song in a certain way, and the song isn’t necessarily set in any specific way, but really that’s Taylor,” Jennifer says of the decision to shoot a retro clip for “Babe.”
“That was her driving the concept,” Kristian agrees, “and she’s a very concept-driven human. You know, as an artist, she’s like, the idea is also sometimes even bigger than the thing.”
“And that’s where we actually cross as artists,” he adds, “Jennifer and I and Taylor all sit in that same spot, which is: If you can imagine this impossible thing, there’s a real chance that if you can hold it in your brain long enough, you can do it.”
“It’s just gonna take a little while, or it might cost some money, or whatever,” he laughs.
