Reviver Entertainment GroupKenny Chesney wasn’t able to make it to the CMA Awards last night due to a death in his family but that didn’t stop the singer from congratulating his friend and duet partner, David Lee Murphy, on their trophy.
Ahead of the broadcast, the longtime collaborators were named CMA Musical Event of the Year for their chart-topping hit “Everything’s Gonna Be Alright.” Kenny then shared his love for the song on social media.
“Sometimes you hear songs & they just feel good,” he wrote on Twitter. “Occasionally one that feels good says something that people need to hear. That’s how I felt about Everything’s Gonna Be Alright when I heard it. Proud to have been part of this with my friend @davidleemurphy. #musicaleventoftheyear.”
Kenny was also nominated for Entertainer of the Year at the CMAs; that trophy went to Keith Urban.
The CMA Awards aired Wednesday night on ABC live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
