Paul Archuleta/Getty ImagesLeAnn Rimes kicks off her You and Me and Christmas tour tonight in Washington state. The tour takes its name from a tune on the soundtrack of her Hallmark holiday movie, It’s Christmas, Eve, which she says has given her “a lot of great Christmas music” to perform this year. But LeAnn says this tour — her sixth holiday trek — is about more than singing festive songs.
“This year, I’m really focusing on taking people on a journey into their hearts,” she tells ABC Radio. “It’s gonna be one of those things that people don’t just sit in the audience and watch. I definitely wanna get them a little more involved: take them into places…in their heart where they don’t normally go.”
“I guess my objective [is]…I just want them to feel,” LeAnn explains. “I want this to be a place where people can…feel comfortable to feel all of these things that they don’t normally allow themselves to feel. ‘Cause I do it. I do it onstage. As soon as I walk onstage, something with my voice just, like, breaks me open”
“I’m sure if I don’t cry at least twice a night on this tour, there’s gonna be seriously something wrong,” she laughs.
During the tour, fans can expect LeAnn to perform holiday favorites and originals and some of her hits. But she says one classic song in particular never fails to move her: “Little Drummer Boy.”
“That song…something about my voice, and the way that we did this beautiful…simplistic production,” LeAnn says. “That’s one that really surprises me every year, where I’m like, ‘Oh, I forgot how beautiful this is!’ That’s one of my favorite moments for sure.”
The You and Me and Christmas tour wraps up December 19 in Chico, CA.
