ABC/Fred LeeRandy Houser will release his new full-length album, Magnolia, on January 11. Coinciding with the project, he’ll launch a feature film of the same name.
The film Magnolia is based on the music from the album and will feature several live performances by the singer, including the lead single “What Whiskey Does.”
Randy stars as a local singer in the film, set in his home state of Mississippi. The storyline follows two characters, Ana and Noah, who are “in the midst of an intense relationship,” according to a statement.
“Magnolia tells my story but also tells the story of running away from something while not knowing exactly what you’re running to,” Randy explains in a statement.
“As I got into the groove of creating this album, the story became so vivid in my mind that I realized it had to live through more than just a body of music and become a film. That’s exactly what we created…a film about running towards your truth.”
In addition to starring in the movie, Randy is also its executive producer. He will host several screenings for select audiences leading up to his album launch. Additional details on the screenings will be announced in the coming weeks.
