RCA Nashville Dolly Parton may finally take home a Golden Globe in 2019.
The global superstar is up for Best Original Song at this year’s ceremony for “Girl in the Movies,” the tune she wrote and recorded for the film Dumplin’ with producer Linda Perry.
“I was like ‘Yay Dolly!’” Perry said, reacting to news of the nomination. “I love her so much, and of course I’m happy for myself, but I am SO HAPPY for Dolly. She walked into my life and turned the lights on, and I have not been able to shut them off since.”
Dolly’s been nominated for a Golden Globe five times before, but she’s never won: She received song nods for “Travelin Thru” from Transamerica in 2006 and “9 to 5” in 1981. The film of the same name also brought her acting noms for both New Star of the Year and Actress in a Musical or Comedy, as did 1983’s The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
We’ll find out if Dolly can grab the globe Sunday, January 6, when the trophies are handed out at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
Meanwhile, the Dumplin’ movie premieres Friday on Netflix. The film centers around an overweight teen who takes courage from Dolly’s music, as she rebels against the beauty pageant culture embraced by her mother. The mom’s played by Jennifer Aniston, who also produced the feature.
