Photo by Chris Hollo for the Grand Ole OpryThe holidays came early for Mark Wills, who’s been asked to become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry. The ’90s country hitmaker was performing at the famed venue December 21 when Vince Gill joined him on stage mid-set to deliver the one question every country star dreams of being asked.
“We at the Opry would like to ask you to become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry,” Vince said. “This boy has been the greatest supporter and proponent of what the Opry stands for.”
Surprised at the invitation, Mark dropped to his knees in tears. Moments later, he stood up and composed himself. After a hug from Vince, Mark accepted his invitation.
“I would love to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry,” Wills said through tears. The emotional moment was captured by the Opry and posted to their Facebook page.
Mark closed the poignant show by singing his previous hit “Don’t Laugh at Me” as Opry members joined him on stage. His induction will occur on January 11, 2019.
