ABC/Lou RoccoKathleen Turner, Delta Burke, and Gerald McRaney are all set to star in the first season of Dolly Parton’s Netflix anthology series called Heartstrings, the legend reveals in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
Each episode is based on a different song written by Dolly, including her classic, “Jolene.” Julianne Hough and Kimberly Williams-Paisley play pivotal characters in that installment, alongside Dolly herself.
Married couple Burke and McRaney take the lead roles in a story based on a lesser-known song, “If I Had Wings,” while Turner plays a “clairvoyant country woman” in “These Old Bones.”
The first season also tackles the hit “Two Doors Down,” as well as the Western-themed “J.J. Sneed” and “Cracker Jack,” which is about a dog.
Dolly foresees doing episodes around “My Blue Ridge Mountain Boy” and potentially “Wildflowers,” should the series get a second season.
“If they continue with it — because they seem to like what we’re doing so far — after these eight shows, which they plan to drop next fall worldwide, we’ll see how it goes,” she tells The Hollywood Reporter.
