ABC/Image Group LAKelsea Ballerini is getting “Lost in Japan” with her new recordings for the Spotify Singles series.
While Kelsea did do a little globe-trotting over the holidays, traveling to Australia to visit husband Morgan Evans’ family, this time, the Tennessee native is simply covering a platinum-selling pop hit by Shawn Mendes.
“When Shawn’s record came out, ‘Lost In Japan’ immediately was my favorite,” Kelsea explains. “I love the soft, flirty nature of the lyrics and thought it would be fun to put a stripped, country feel to it.”
“Lost In Japan” is originally sung from the viewpoint of a guy who’s willing to get on a plane and fly “a couple hundred miles” to the hotel of a girl he can’t get off his mind. Considering that Kelsea and Morgan are often hundreds of miles apart, it’s easy to see why the song appealed to her.
You can check out Kelsea’s “Lost in Japan” cover on Spotify now, as well as a new version of her country hit “Miss Me More.”
Later this month, she hits the road with Kelly Clarkson on her Meaning of Life Tour, before kicking off her own Miss Me More trek in April.
