ABC RadioWhen CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year Old Dominion hit the road this weekend on their Make It Sweet Tour, they’ll be taking with them a piece of the previous winners, Little Big Town.
Backstage are wardrobe cases labeled Karen [Fairchild], Kimberly [Schlapman], and Jimi [Westbrook].
“Little Big Town donated them to us,” Matthew Ramsey explains. “They heard we needed some…”
“We have one [crew] guy that came over,” he continues. “He said, ‘Actually, I think the guys in Little Big Town have some wardrobe cases that they’re not using anymore.”
“So we said, ‘Well, let’s buy ’em.’ And…they said, ‘Oh, no.’ And they cleaned ’em up and they fixed ’em up and they sent ’em over to us and just gave ’em to us because they’re such sweet people.”
“They showed up with their names on ’em, and they started to clean ’em off,” Matthew recalls. “And we said, ‘No, no, no, no, no. We want those names on there.'”
OD admits that’s led to a bit of confusion backstage.
“The best part is at the end of the night, they get packed up and rolled onto a truck,” Geoff Sprung points out. “So all the sudden, these text messages will start flying around to the production people going ‘Is Kimberly still in the dressing room?'”
“Or if [the cases] are in a different spot,” Matthew adds, “you’ll get a text saying Karen and Jimi and Kimberly are backstage. They’re not in the dressing room.'”
No word on what happened to the case that belonged to LBT’s Phillip Sweet.
OD kicks off their tour Friday in Chicago, while LBT cranks up the Canadian leg of their Breakers trek next month.
