First Canada, then the world! Newcomer Tenille Townes tops the chart in the Great White North

Columbia Nashville Tenille Townes may just be breaking through in the States, but she’s already at #1 in her native Canada.

The singer/songwriter from Grande Prairie, Alberta got the news that her debut single, “Somebody’s Daughter,” had hit the top of the Canadian chart while touring the Great White North with Dierks Bentley. Dierks, meanwhile, happens to have this week’s #1 song in the U.S. with “Burning Man.”

“Yay us!” Dierks tweeted, along with a photo from Monday’s concert in Kelowna, British Columbia. In the picture, Tenille wears a huge smile, while she and Dierks high-five.

“Both have number 1 songs this week,” Dierks continues. “Huge congrats to Tenille for her first number one song in Canada with ‘Somebody’s Daughter.’ Big big deal.”

Indeed it is a big deal: Just last year, Lindsay Ell became the first woman to top the Canadian country chart in a decade with “Criminal.”

Tenille’s celebration wasn’t just limited to her stage time with Dierks, of course. Her band threw her a party on her bus, complete with hats, balloons, and even a little dancing.

“These guys are just the sweetest,” Tenille tweeted, along with a short video. “Thanks for the #1 bus party, boys!!!! Made me bawl ha!!!!! So grateful to get to celebrate this out here on the road!”

Tenille’s full length debut album — helmed by noted produced Jay Joyce — is set to arrive later this year.
