The initiative, launched by the Recording Academy’s Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion, asks that anybody, or any company, who is “responsible for or involved in selecting and hiring producers and engineers to commit to making hiring decisions only after considering a slate of candidates that includes at least two women.”

According to a study conducted by USC Annenberg in 2018, women make up only two percent of producers and three percent of engineers/mixers in popular music.

Other artists who’ve signed the initiative include Kelly Clarkson, Gloria Estefan, Nick Jonas, Alicia Keys, Lady Gaga, John Legend, Jennifer Lopez, Maroon 5, Katy Perry, Pink, Meghan Trainor and dozens more.
