ABC RadioOf all the songs nominated for ACM Single of the Year at the April awards in Vegas, only one has the distinction of being a current top ten hit: Jake Owen’s “Down to the Honky Tonk.”
It’s a nod that apparently caught the Florida native off-guard.
“Holy guacamole…” Jake reacted on Twitter, adding the avocado emoji. “I just woke up with my little girl laying on my shoulder to find out about this!”
“Life can’t get much better,” he added. “Thanks so much to my team and fans out there! Wow. I’m seriously so excited.”
The “I Was Jack (You Were Diane)” hitmaker went on to thank his friends in radio.
“Also… I must say… COUNTRY RADIO!!!!!! Thank YOU!!!! For so many years you all have supported me and the only way to be nominated for ‘Single of the Year’ is to have one being played like crazy on the radio!” he concluded. “I am forever grateful for your support.”
We’ll find out who wins Sunday, April 7, when Reba McEntire hosts the 54th ACMs live from MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Jake and his girlfriend Erica are expecting a baby later this year. He shares six-year-old daughter Pearl with his ex-wife.
