Blake Shelton remains the winningest coach in the fifteen-season history of The Voice. But the Oklahoma native says he doesn’t necessarily do a lot of plotting to make it happen.
“I’ve never really been a strategy guy when it comes to choosing my team for this show,” Blake reveals. “Because really at the end of the day, your team chooses you.”
“I mean, you hit your button for the people you like,” he adds, “but still you’ve gotta hope they choose you as their coach.”
Instead, Blake relies more heavily on his instincts.
“I hit my button for artists that I feel like I could hear in the finale,” he explains, “or I feel like that with a little bit of coaching I can get ’em to the finale. And that’s how I do it.”
“And it works out a lot for me, I’ve gotta say,” he finishes, with a smile.
So far, Team Blake has won six times, most recently with Chloe Kohanski in season thirteen.
Season sixteen of The Voice continues tonight at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
Brooks & Dunn will join Blake in the Battle Rounds in the coming weeks, while Kelsea Ballerini is on board to help out her current tour mate, Kelly Clarkson.
