Jimmie Allen and Scotty McCreery toured together earlier this year on Scotty’s Seasons Change trek, but that’s far from the only thing the two chart toppers have in common.
Their relationship actually goes all the way back to 2011, the year Scotty won American Idol. It turns out Jimmie was on that season, too.
“I actually haven’t watched it probably since the season after I did it,” Jimmie confesses. “I did it season ten, I watched season eleven, because everyone that made [the] top forty my year that got sent home with me went back and made top twenty-four.”
“Because I remember I got a few calls from people,” the “Best Shot” hitmaker continues. “They were like, ‘Hey, you know, if you come back this year, you’ll probably make top twenty-four.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, I’m good.'”
Jimmie admits his interest is heightened now that American Idol has new judges, and a new home on ABC.
“I think I’m gonna check out some of this season,” he tells ABC Radio, “just to see the difference and stuff like that. I’m a huge Katy Perry fan. Yeah, and Lionel [Richie] and Luke [Bryan]. I like all of ’em!”
Since Lionel presented the Entertainer of the Year trophy at last year’s CMA Awards, he and Jimmie have already come face to face.
I got to meet Lionel, too, at CMAs. I about passed out,” he confesses. “I about fainted.”
“Like, ‘That’s Lionel Richie. Like, THE guy! Mr. Commodores himself…” Jimmie laughs.
The Hollywood Rounds begin Sunday night on American Idol , from the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. You can tune in to watch at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
Meanwhile, Jimmie’s second single, “Make Me Want To,” is currently making its way up the chart.
