LOWFIELDBilly Ray Cyrus is lending his voice to a remix of rapper Lil Nas X‘s viral hit, “Old Town Road.”
Lil Nas X, an Atlanta-based songwriter and rapper, rose to fame after the so-called “trap country” song surfaced on the video app TikTok in December 2018. Fans caught on to the song and it’s since become a viral sensation, especially after it reached the top 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 but was then controversially removed from the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
On the remixed version, Cyrus sings lead on the first verse before he and Nas trade vocals throughout the song, whose lyrics references high-end brands like Porsche and Gucci. Cyrus also added a verse to the remix, rapping, “Hat down, cross town, livin’ like a rock star/Spent a lot of money on my brand new guitar.”
“I loved the song the first time I heard it,” Cyrus says. “Country music fans don’t need to be defined by critics. I’ve always said, ‘Don’t think inside the box, don’t think outside the box. Think like there is no box.’ So, I’m honored to collaborate with Lil Nas X on ‘Old Town Road.'”
The “Old Town Road” remix is available now on all streaming services.
