You could make a pretty strong argument that nobody had a better ACM Awards weekend than Old Dominion.
Not only did the five-man band take home the Group of the Year trophy for the second time in a row, Matthew Ramsey and Trevor Rosen also found out they have the number-one song in the country with a tune they co-wrote, Michael Ray‘s “One That Got Away.”
Once they got the news Saturday night that Michael might break Luke Combs‘ multiple-week streak with “Beautiful Crazy,” they started planning a small celebration. But in true Las Vegas fashion, the party turned out to be much bigger than expected.
“It was funny because we were texting with Michael Ray,” Trevor explains. “And we were like, ‘We should have a shot!’ you know. And we just thought we were gonna go have a shot with Michael, and we walked in, and it turned into a #1 party.”
“Yeah, it was huge,” Matthew agrees, as Trevor continues: “It was really cool just to see all the different artists, and all of our crew and team there.”
“But you could never plan for a weekend like this,” Trevor adds. “So just to have the #1 song and win an award and get to perform — I don’t know, it’s kind of a whirlwind.”
Trevor and Matthew are almost in a situation where they’re competing with themselves: OD’s latest hit, “Make It Sweet,” isn’t far behind “One That Got Away,” at number five.
