Even after you “Make It Sweet,” Old Dominion confesses it can be hard to believe just how far you’ve come

ABC/Image Group LAThis week, Old Dominion claims their latest number one with the lead single from their forthcoming third album, “Make It Sweet.”

OD started out as a bar band made up of songwriters, and even though they’re now the reigning CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year, they admit it can often be hard to believe just how successful they’ve become.

“Yeah, I’d say we have a little more confidence and swagger,” lead singer Matthew Ramsey reflects, while going on to explain how the five-man-band remains the same.

“Even now, it’s hard to break ourselves out of building a set list, and we always look at it and look at it and look at it and worry about the spot where we’re gonna lose the crowd,” he tells ABC Radio.

OD is now on their own headlining Make It Sweet Tour after quite a few years of opening for Kenny Chesney. As thousands of people fill arenas and amphitheaters to see the band, what they’ve accomplished is beginning to sink in.

“Ten-thousand people just paid to see the show!” Brad Tursi says, as his bandmates laugh.

“Yeah, they paid to see this!,” Matthew adds. “We’re not gonna lose ’em.”

“We have to constantly remind ourselves,” he confesses, “‘These people are paying to see us. We’re not opening for anyone. This is our show. This is our crowd.’ So we have to constantly remind ourselves of that, but we’re getting better at doing that.”

After playing California’s Stagecoach Festival this weekend, Old Dominion resumes their tour in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Nashville later this week.
