The Valory Music Co.Since reigning ACM Male Artist of the Year Thomas Rhett is approaching superstar status, with all of his songs practically rocketing to the top of the chart, it’s surprising to realize 2019 is the first year he’s doing nothing but headlining.
“This summer, this is gonna be my first year literally headlining the whole year,” he explains. “You know, we’ve headlined a couple of tours in the past, just doing arenas, but always kinda getting on different tours. [We] did Kenny Chesney last year.”
“This year on the Very Hot Summer Tour will be the first time that we’re doing a whole year of headlining,” TR continues, “half arenas and then half amphitheaters. This will be the first time I’ve ever done amphitheaters as a headliner, which is super exciting. I’ve always wanted to do this in the summertime.”
While Rhett may have put a lot of thought into whom to take on tour, he didn’t have to look very far for one of his openers: it’s his dad, hit singer/songwriter Rhett Akins.
“Getting to bring my dad out to open the show is going to be incredible,” Thomas reflects. “Russell Dickerson is one of my best friends in the world, and Dustin Lynch is just on fire.”
“[It’s] just a great group of people,” he adds, “who I think we’re going to have an excellent time on the road and really just get people ready for summertime.”
Thomas and Dustin are currently closing out the Canadian leg of TR’s Life Changes Tour through mid-May. Then on May 25, his dad and Russell will join them to kick off the Very Hot Summer Tour in Orange Beach, Alabama. The tour takes it name from a track on Thomas Rhett’s new album, Center Point Road, which comes out May 31.
