ABC/Image Group LABrett Young is recuperating, after being forced to cut his show short while opening for Kelsea Ballerini this weekend on the Miss Me More Tour.
The singer’s voice gave out, as the California native explained on Instagram.
“I just walked off stage here in Iowa,” a gravelly-voiced Brett said in a short video. “It was the most bizarre thing. As you can tell, the voice is even worse now, but sound check was good.”
“The whole day was good,” he continued, “and the last 15 minutes before I walked onstage, the voice started getting — I don’t know — dry. I don’t know if it’s allergies, if I’m sick. It feels like laryngitis. But I’m so sorry. I tried, you know.”
Brett continued his apology by promising to return.
“This is literally my least-favorite thing on the planet, to have to cancel a show, especially to have to do it onstage,” he added. “I love you guys so much and I’m gonna make this up. I’m gonna come back.”
“Enjoy Kelsea,” he closed, “and I love you guys very much. I’m sorry.”
Brett’s fellow artists and fans shared their condolences.
“Happens to all of us bro,” Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley commented. “The fans get it.”
Brett, Kelsea, and newcomer Brandon Ratcliff don’t have another show until Thursday in Duluth, Minnesota, so hopefully the “Here Tonight” hitmaker’s voice will have time to recover.
