ABC/Image Group LA “What Happens in a Small Town” rises to number sixteen on the country chart this week, even though it has Brantley Gilbert in a quandary. He’s not sure if he’s more elated because it’s the biggest U.S. hit so far for his duet partner, Lindsay Ell, or because it written about his relationship with his wife, Amber.
“I’m excited about it, obviously,” Brantley admits. “It’s a special song. It’s close to my heart because it’s about us, you know.”
“And being able to work with Lindsay…” he adds, “I feel like all of us around her are pulling for awesome things to happen for her. She’s such a genuine person and she’s been amazing to work with. So I’ve got my fingers crossed and a lot of prayers going up for this song.”
Previously, Lindsay made it to number seventeen in the U.S. last July with her hit, “Criminal,” though it reached number one in her native Canada.
Next up, Lindsay joins Brantley for his Not Like Us Tour.
“Yahtzee! It’s going down…” he says of touring with his duet partner. “You know, that tour is she and I and Michael Ray.”
And since Michael’s on the bill, you never know when his fiancée, Carly Pearce, might show up.
“You know what? She’s welcome,” Brantley confirms. “I told Michael any time he wants to bring her, she’s more than welcome.”
Brantley continues working fairs and festivals this summer before the next leg of the Not Like Us Tour with Lindsay and Michael continues in August.
“What Happens in a Small Town” is the lead single from Brantley’s next album. So far, he hasn’t revealed its name or release date.
