ABC/Image Group LA Granger Smith returned to the road this past weekend for the first time since the death of his youngest son River a little more than three weeks ago.
Medical personnel were unable to revive the three-year-old after a drowning accident in the family pool at Granger’s home in the Austin, Texas area.
Sunday at Chicago’s LakeShake festival, Granger sported a new tattoo on his right forearm that simply says “River.” Just last week, he and his wife Amber addressed fans on YouTube, announcing they would return to the road with their children London and Lincoln as they try to heal.
This weekend, in River’s honor, they visited SUE the T. Rex at Chicago’s Field Museum.
“Getting back on the road and back into daily life without River has not been easy in the slightest,” Amber shared on Instagram, along with a photo of London and Lincoln with the dinosaur.
“Every single thing reminds me of him, and all I can think about is how he would love exploring and seeing all that we are seeing,” she added.
You can feel the mother’s grief as her post continues: “I have this pit in my stomach constantly, because I’m trying to make life as normal as possible for our other 2 incredible kiddos, London and Lincoln, while hurting so bad inside.”
“I look around at everyone else and wonder if anyone is going through something like we are,” Amber’s post goes on. “Dumb little things don’t matter anymore. My family does. My faith does.”
Granger’s next date is Friday in Midland, Michigan.
