ABC/Image Group LA It should only be a matter of days before we get to hear the first taste of music from The HighWomen.
The all-female country supergroup is made up of Maren Morris, hit songwriter Natalie Hemby, and Americana Grammy-winners Brandi Carlile and Amanda Shires.
Their name, of course, references The Highwaymen, the legendary, all-male band formed in the mid-eighties by Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson. It’s also perhaps a sly nod to their fondness for weed.
“Excited for this to pop off soon,” Maren tweeted on Wednesday, along with a behind-the-scenes snapshot from the band’s photo session.
Last month at CMA Fest, Brandi revealed The HighWomen’s album was finished and their debut single should arrive sometime in July.
The foursome’s set to play their first official gig together on Friday, July 26 at the Newport Folk Festival.
