Sony LegacyAn unexpected special guest emerged during Sunday’s season two finale of Big Little Lies on HBO: none other than the Red-Headed Stranger himself, Willie Nelson.
Willie’s 2013 recording of “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” played over the pivotal, closing scene as the Monterey Five…well, you’ll have to watch it for yourself to find out what happened.
The appearance in the show was enough to send Willie’s cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival classic into the top ten on both the iTunes and Amazon charts. Recorded as a duet with his daughter Paula, the song originally appeared on his album of pairings with his favorite female singers titled To All the Girls….
So far, there’s no word on whether the show — which stars Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon — might return for a third season, though Nicole has indicated she’s interested. Big Little Lies was originally supposed to be limited to a single season, but was revived after becoming both a commercial and critical success.
Ahead of the finale, CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year Keith Urban showed his support for his wife’s project by posting a picture of himself sporting a “Celeste & Jane & Bonnie & Renata & Madeline” shirt — those are the names of the show’s main characters.
