ABC/Randy HolmesMorgan Wallen got a pretty good parting gift this weekend as he wrapped up FGL’s Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour in California: an armload of gold and platinum certifications.
Both of Morgan’s number ones — “Up Down” with Florida Georgia Line and “Whiskey Glasses” — have been certified platinum.
While his debut single, “The Way I Talk,” only made it to number thirty on the chart, it’s been certified gold as well, and so has his debut album, If I Know Me.
“I remember getting my first plaque for ‘Up Down’ — that meant so much to me,” Morgan recalls. “I started to see the difference at my shows after that in the way people were reacting, the same way I saw it happening when my fans latched on to ‘Whiskey Glasses’ this year.”
“Now seeing the same correlation — having a GOLD album and watching fans at shows singing along all night and buying in to my music — it is indescribable,” he adds. “Thank you to my team, to country radio and to the fans that helped make this happen for me.”
This week, the East Tennessee native joins Luke Combs on the fall leg of his sold-out Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour, before heading out with Jason Aldean next year.
In November, Morgan competes for New Artist of the Year at the CMA Awards. Right now, his new single, “Chasin’ You,” is making its way up the chart.
