Christmas is always exciting in the McCreery household. But this year, it’ll be a little more special as Scotty McCreery‘s 2-year-old son, Avery, gets more eager about presents.

“I’m so excited because [Avery] just had his birthday and for Christmas last year, he was looking at presents but didn’t quite know what to do. But he got so excited about his presents for his birthday that like, I’m just excited to see his face light up when he sees the tree and a few things down there,” Scotty tells ABC Audio. “So [this will] be a fun year for all of us.”

Scotty and his wife, Gabi, typically alternate between their home states, North Carolina and Louisiana, for Christmas, and this year it’s Scotty’s turn to be homebound.

“We’ll be in Carolina this year, but a lot of the Louisiana family is coming up to us,” he shares. “So we’ll be here, but I promise you, we’ll be eating some gumbo. We’ll be eating some red beans and rice and jambalaya.”

“If I had any advice for anybody, it’s marry into a Cajun family because, boy, they can cook,” Scotty adds with a laugh.

Scotty’s currently approaching the top 30 of the country charts with “Fall of Summer,” the second single off his latest album, Rise & Fall.
