Seven-year old girl found thanks to Nixle

A search for a missing girl had a happy ending Thursday afternoon thanks to an alert citizen.

The Mitchell Police Department issued a Nixle alert just before 5pm of a 7 year old girl missing from the area of Norway and Rowley. She was walking home from L.B.Williams Elementary School about 4pm.

Troy Magnuson works at the Corn Palace gift shop. He got the alert on his smartphone. “I walked out of a meeting and lo and behold, here’s this little girl in our gift shop”, said Magnuson. “So I was able to call police right away and she was home within 10 minutes. It’s just awesome how that works.”

The Mitchell Police Department uses the Nixle alert system to inform the community about public safety issues such as missing children. Anyone can sign up to receive the alerts on their smartphone or by e-mail.
