New Video Offers 360-Degree View of Jake Owen

Sony Music NashvilleCan’t get enough of Jake Owen? How about Jake Owen barefoot, on a beach, in a 360-degree virtual reality format?

That’s exactly how Owen chose to shoot his innovative new music video for summer anthem “American Country Love Song.” The clip was filmed in Key West, FL, following Owen’s recent trip from Nashville to his home state in a vintage 1966 Volkswagen van he dubbed the “Love Bus,” which makes an appearance in the video.

The 360 video is best viewed on the Chrome or Firefox browsers, as long as you don’t get dizzy easily.

“American Country Love Song” is the lead single from Owen’s fifth album, American Love, which hits retail July 29. Also, Jake’s just joined the ranks of country stars — including Toby KeithKenny Chesney and Willie Nelson — with their own line of spirits, with the debut of his clear Beach Whiskey.

Nashville Notes for 6/20/2016

Burke/Triolo Productions/ThinkStockGarth Brooks is mourning the loss of his friend, musician Mike Chapman, who played bass on all of the country star’s studio albums. Chapman passed away in Nashville June 13 just days after being inducted into the Musician’s Hall of Fame as a member of Brooks’ The G-Men studio band. Brooks paid tribute to the musician during a June 17 concert in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Chapman will be heard on several songs Brooks has already recorded for an upcoming album.

To promote his first album of new material in eight years, ’90s country star Mark Chesnutt has launched a weekly video series titled Mark Chesnutt’s Honky Tony Monday on his YouTube channel, YouTube.com/MarkChesnuttTV. In the series, he shares memories about some of his favorite songs and fellow country artists. The newly posted third episode honors the late country legend Merle Haggard. Chesnutt’s album, Tradition Lives, hits retail July 8.

Country musicians Kristian Bush and Charlie Worsham will join a group of Nashville music industry executives on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., June 23 to lobby for high-quality music education programs for all students.

Luke Bryan’s New No. 1 Is Deeply Personal, Yet Relatable

Capitol Records NashvilleLuke Bryan has a brand new number one with a very personal song he says his fans are as passionate about as he is. But, he admits, at first he wasn’t sure he should release ”Huntin,’ Fishin’ & Lovin’ Every Day.”

“I’ve had songs like that on previous albums that spoke that kind of country boy lingo stuff that we were a little hesitant to release to radio,” he admits. But Luke adds, the song tells “such a great story of who I am,” that he’s glad fans seem attached to it. In fact, Luke compares it to his identity building record from his first album.

“It’s kind of like what ‘We Rode in Trucks’ was for me 10 years ago,” he says. “Now, it’s like my moment to kind of have that song.”

Of course is is a song about hunting and fishing, but, says Luke, it’s also about “making the most out of life with people that you love.”

Carrie Underwood Remains Football’s Theme Queen

Sony Music NashvilleCarrie Underwood is ready for some football.

She may be married to a professional hockey player, but the country superstar clearly has a soft spot for the NFL. For the fourth straight year, she’s recorded a new opening theme song for Sunday Night Football.

This season’s version, titled “Oh, Sunday Night,” is being described as a mix of country, rock and pop set to the tune of “Somethin’ Bad,” Underwood’s Grammy-nominated 2014 hit duet with Miranda Lambert. Underwood worked with the song’s writers to adapt the lyrics into a football theme.

The song will debut when the Patriots play the Cardinals Sept. 11.

Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott Reveals Heartbreak Behind New Single

Capitol Records NashvilleDuring a band hiatus, Lady Antebellum singer Hillary Scott recorded a faith-based album, Love Remains, with members of her immediate family and shipped the project’s moving first single, “Thy Will,” off to country radio. While she’s been cryptic until now about the song’s inspiration, she told ABC’s Good Morning America Monday that she penned the song following a heartbreaking miscarriage.

In the tearful interview, Scott revealed that she suffered the sudden miscarriage during a pregnancy last fall, and said of the experience, “I … feel like there’s this pressure that you’re just supposed to be able to snap your fingers and continue to walk through life like it never happened.” Instead, Scott used the album — and the time in the studio with her family — as an opportunity to heal.

Scott and her husband, Lady A drummer Chris Tyrrell, are the parents of 2-year-old daughter Eisele.

The 13-song Love Remains, produced by Ricky Skaggs, hits retail July 29.
