Win One for Blake Shelton: Judge Clears the Way for His "Rehab" Lawsuit Against "In Touch" to Proceed

NBC/David LaChapelleA California judge has cleared the way for Blake Shelton’s suit against In Touch Weekly to proceed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  The star of The Voice sued the magazine over its September cover, “The Real Story:  REHAB for Blake.”

Lawyers for In Touch argued the libel suit should be thrown out, saying they hadn’t defamed the country singer because “it would be entirely commendable for Shelton to seek rehab considering his undisputed history of bragging about his own drunkenness and his well-publicized behavior while under the influence of alcohol.”

Judge Christina A. Snyder sided with Blake, asserting the magazine ran the headline, knowing all the while Blake was not, in fact, in rehab.

“A reasonable person viewing the In Touch headlines and sub-headlines — which were located 30 pages away from the Article — might well have concluded that Shelton had, in fact, entered ‘REHAB’ after ‘his friends begged him to stop joking about drinking & get help,’” Snyder said in her finding.

The ruling is believed to be a good sign for Blake, since the burden was also on his attorney Larry Stein to establish he has a reasonable probability of being able to prove his case, before the lawsuit could proceed.

"I Like the Sound of That" Is a Welcome "Shot in the Arm" for Rascal Flatts

BMLGRascal Flatts is celebrating sweet sixteen, as “I Like the Sound of That” becomes their 16th song to top the country charts.  Joe Don Rooney thinks it’s even more incredible, when you consider their album Rewind is nearing the two-year anniversary of its release.

“It’s crazy because this album’s been out for a couple years. It’s like the album that won’t stop. We keep on going back to the drawing board and going, ‘What else can we put out that might work?’ you know,” he says.

“‘I Like the Sound of That’ is one of the first songs that we put on hold, one of the first songs that we recorded. And it just has a life to it, you know,” he adds. “And we knew it had to be heard at some point. It was the perfect timing, I think for the perfect song to kind of rejuvenate Rascal Flatts a little bit — a little shot in the arm, and we needed it, honestly.”

Jay DeMarcus agrees that the song, written by Best New Artist Grammy winner Meghan Trainor and Shay Mooney of Dan+Shay along with tunesmith Jesse Frasure, has injected some much-needed energy into the band’s sets.

“We were kinda due for an uptempo hit, to be honest,” Jay says.

“An anti-wrist-slitter?” Joe Don interrupts.

“Yeah,” Jay agrees. “We’ve lived our lives for so long on ballads that we needed something fun and something energetic and it’s been the perfect shot in the arm for us. It really has been!”

This summer, Jay, Joe Don and Gary LeVox head out on the stripped-down Rhythm & Roots Tour with Kelsea Ballerini and newcomer Chris Lane. They play their first date June 17 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Alabama Teams Up with Alison Krauss for New Single, "Come Find Me"

BMGIf you listen closely, you’ll hear Alison Krauss singing on Alabama’s new single, “Come Find Me.” The Country Music Hall of Famers are releasing a second song from their Southern Drawl album that came out last fall, just as they launch their 2016 tour of the same name. They play their first date May 12 with the Nashville Symphony Orchestra.

In addition to having an impressive collection of 27 Grammys, Alison also has a pretty good track record as a duet partner. Her guest vocals on Brad Paisley’s “Whiskey Lullaby,” as well as Shenandoah’s “Somewhere in the Vicinity of the Heart” from 1994 both resulted in big hits. Her cover of Keith Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing at All” was a chart topper in 1995 as well.

Frankie Ballard's Texas-Recorded "El Rio" Due June 10

Warner Music NashvilleFrankie Ballard traveled to the Sonic Ranch south of El Paso, Texas, to record his new album, El Rio, due out June 10.

“I’m very proud of the work [producer] Marshall [Altman] and I did on El Rio. We busted our a** to be better,” he says candidly. “It’s been a spiritual journey. This album has already changed my life, and nobody’s heard it yet.”

The record’s lead single, “It All Started with a Beer,” has already cracked the top 25.

“On the surface, it’s a love story about two folks meeting in a bar and having a beer,” Frankie esays.  “From there, the relationship blossomed into something long lasting and now they’re looking back, going, ‘Man look at this great relationship we got, and it started so simply, with just a beer.’ So many people can relate to the idea. But also, one of the deeper meanings of that song is sometimes the biggest s*** that happens to you in life doesn’t start in a big way. That makes me hopeful for the future.”

You can check out the video for the “Sunshine & Whiskey” singer’s latest hit on YouTube now.

Zac Brown Addresses Being in a Florida Hotel Room as Several People Were Arrested

ABC/Image Group LAZac Brown took to social media Friday afternoon to address TMZ’s reports that he was in a Florida hotel room when several people were arrested for drug possession.

“My dad always said nothing good ever happens when you stay out late,” the Zac Brown Band leader posted on Facebook. “It’s a lesson I learned the hard way last week, being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I attended a private gathering at a Miami-area hotel and had only been there for a short time when police officers arrived and arrested two people in the room who had just showed up a few minutes before. I did not know these people and had no idea that there were drugs in their possession,” he wrote.

“I cooperated fully with the authorities and am not part of any ongoing police investigation. Everyone is responsible for their actions, and I regret using poor judgment and putting myself in that position,” he added.

“I am focused on continuing to make great music for my fans, and on representing my family and community well with our philanthropic work,” the “Beautiful Drug” hitmaker asserted. “And next time I’ll make sure to remember what my dad taught me,” he concluded.

ZBB has just released the new single “Castaway” from their Jekyll + Hyde album. This weekend, they put on their Southern Ground Music & Food Festival in Charleston, South Carolina.
