Authorities have filed several charges regarding to Saturday morning’s fatal crash south of Mitchell.
Davison County States Attorney Jim Miskimins says eighteen year old Tate Thompson of Ethan is charged with driving under the influence, vehicular battery, vehicular homicide and hit and run resulting in serious injury or death. Thompson is free on bond. His next court appearance is July 28th in Mitchell.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol says Thompson failed to negotiate a curve on a gravel road when the vehicle went into the south ditch around 4 am Saturday.
Eighteen year old Dylan Mentele died at the scene. A seventeen year old Mitchell girl was seriously injured. Thompson, and two other eighteen year old passengers, William Lanstraat of Stickney and Justin Roster of Alexandria, sustained minor injuries.
