Andrew Lipovsky/NBCDolly Parton dropped by The Tonight Show on Tuesday to plug her new album, Pure & Simple, as well as her upcoming holiday TV movie, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love. Dolly also revealed that she and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary not with a fancy dinner out, but with fast food.
The 70-year-old country legend and her husband, Carl Dean, marked their golden wedding anniversary with a road trip in their RV and renewed their wedding vows in Ringgold, Georgia, where they first tied the knot in 1966, followed by an intimate celebration.
“We took the little RV and went down and spent the night, she told host Jimmy Fallon. “We just got fast food and ate in our camper and spent the night.”
“It was [romantic] to us,” added Dolly.
Parton also revealed during the interview that she’ll have a small part in her upcoming TV movie, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, the sequel to her hit 2015 film. The role pays homage to an important lady in her life.
“When I was little, I patterned my look after the town trollup,” recalls the “9 to 5” singer. “I thought she was the most beautiful thing. She had all this makeup and hair and all the tight clothes and everything I wanted, so it impressed me. So I thought, ‘Why not play the painted lady?’ you know, that I patterned my look after.”
Dolly returned later to perform the title track from her Pure & Simple album, available now.
