ATO Records2001 CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Lee Ann Womack returns October 27 with her first new album since 2014’s The Way I’m Livin’.
The daughter of the Lone Star State traveled back to her native Texas for The Lonely, the Lonesome & the Gone, recording most of the album at the legendary SugarHill Studios in Houston. In fact, she stood on practically the same spot to record her cover of George Jones’ “Take the Devil out of Me,” as the legend did for the original in 1959.
“I wanted to get out of Nashville and tap the deep music and vibe of East Texas,” Lee Ann says. “I wanted to make sure this record had a lot of soul in it, because real country music has soul. I wanted to remind people of that.”
Lee Ann co-wrote most of the album’s 14 tracks, which was produced by her husband, Frank Liddell, who’s also known for his work with Miranda Lambert.
