Chris Hollo/2017 Grand Ole OpryCongratulations poured in for Chris Young on social media, after Country Music Hall-of-Famer Vince Gill surprised him Tuesday night with an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry.
“Pumped to have you in the Opry family, Chris Young! Well deserved, man!” Darius Rucker tweeted. The “For the First Time” singer will celebrate his fifth anniversary as a member with an appearance on the Opry September 20.
In addition to well wishes from Steve Wariner and Rascal Flatts, Joe Don Rooney reached out to Chris personally.
“Congrats… and who better than Vince Gill to set u up & blow your mind!” he said. “He did it to us in 2001, tonight it was ur turn.”
Chris summed it all up Tuesday by saying, “Tonight was so unreal! Growing up listening to the Opry, I never imagined that I would be invited to be a member!”
Head to YouTube to watch the career-making moment when Vince gave Chris the news. He’ll be officially inducted into the cast of the world’s longest-running radio show in a special ceremony Tuesday, October 17, before the release of his new album, Losing Sleep, that Friday.
