ABC/Image Group LAEven celebrities can be nervous when coming face to face with a music legend. This is exactly what happened to Thomas Rhett while at an ACM Honors photo shoot for People magazine.
People was on hand in Nashville during the filming of the 2017 ACM Honors broadcast and put together a yearbook-worthy photo op that included 21 of country music’s biggest stars. Reba McEntire, Jason Aldean, Alan Jackson and Dolly Parton were just a few of the honorees in the building.
People reveals that, similar to any class photo, many of the artists were chatting with each other during the shoot. TR received many congratulations on the birth of his daughter, Ada James, while Lady Antebellum‘s Hillary Scott shared some helpful advice as did Little Big Town‘s Phillip Sweet. However, there was one person in attendance that Thomas himself had never met: George Strait.
While many of the artists filtered out of the shoot, TR and King George were two of the few who remained. Mustering all the courage he could, Thomas walked up to George to introduce himself, reports People.
“Thomas Rhett,” he said as he stuck his hand out to George. “Good to meet you. I don’t think we’ve ever met.”
“I don’t think so,” Strait replied with a smile and a handshake.
“It’s a pleasure,” Thomas Rhett added. “I just wanted to say hello.”
The 2017 ACM Honors air on CBS on Friday at 9 p.m. ET. For more behind-the-scenes stories and photos, visit the magazine’s website.
