Kirsten BalaniMichael Ray wants to introduce you to Amos.
That’s the title of the Florida native’s sophomore album, due June 1. It’s named after Michael’s late grandad, who fueled his love of country music. Michael started singing in Amos’ band when he was nine years old, and still plays his grandfather’s 1978 Les Paul guitar.
In a statement, Michael recalls the moment that his grandfather died, just two months before the singer made his Grand Ole Opry debut, as a “pivotal one.”
“Our family lost its patriarch. So, when we started making this record, before I would record vocals on the song I would ask myself, ‘Is this a song I would have played proudly for him?’” Michael explains. “It makes this album that much more special, to think he would have said, ‘Ray, that’s a good one.’”
Amos includes Michael’s current top-20 hit “Get to You.” The track list and cover will be revealed April 20.
